This is NOT the character first seen in Incredible Hulk (vol. 1) #4. Mongu was a great gladiator. After initially opposing Man-Thing on behalf of his dimension's ruler, Mongu later appeared as an agent of Merlin Demonspawn (a.k.a. Maha Yogi).

After Mongu suffered a humiliating defeat in battle with Man-Thing, he leaped into the abyss of Eternity. This quite-possibly suicidal decision was depicted in Incredible Hulk #211. Despite having done this, Mongu was seen again in Avengers Annual #22, when he attacked the Avengers. Clearly the Abyss of Eternity, despite its ominous-sounding name, was not fatal to jump into - at least not for Mongu.
