Centuries ago, Captain Fate was the first mate to Maura Hawke. He conspired against her, took her ship, and marooned her on the isle of the wizard/satyr Khordes. At Maura Hawke's request, Captain Fate and his crew were cursed by Khordes to eternally sail the skyways. In modern times, Captain Fate encountered Man-Thing and was finally able to transfer the curse to John Daltry.
