Amanda Ballard was a TV news reporter based in New York City.
Peter Gnucci was a mafia gangster - of the type that the vigilante Punisher continually hunted and killed. The Punisher had been making inroads in destroying Gnucci's criminal enterprise. Gnucci announced a bounty on the Punisher. They offered three million dollars for his head. The mercenary assassin Deadpoon decided to collect the bounty, and tried repeatedly to kill the Punisher.
At one point, the Punisher was believed dead, and news of the Punisher's death was reported by Amanda Ballard.
