Calvin Burlingame was an operative and terrorist for the organization known as "Imperial Forces," which was organized by William Taurey. Imperial Forces was the heir to Taurey's previous organization, the Royalist Forces of America. Taurey was the descendant of British Loyalists and he resented the American political separation from England. He and his followers wanted to end democracy in the United States and perhaps still desired to put the American colonies under the authority of the British Crown.
