H.P Derleth was a robber baron. When he died he left his estate to the University hospital, in an attempt to ease his dying conscience. His endowment allowed the formation of Derleth House, which provided care for terminally ill children. H.P. Derleth himself was only mentioned, and never seen on-panel. But the Derleth House that his gift enabled was central to a Spider-Man story that began when Peter Parker and Ben Urich worked together on a human interest story about it.
