In 1970, Casales was one of the scientists who created the time acceleration experiment which led to the development of the Children of the Vault - a group of powerful beings who were the result of 6,000 subjective years of evolution that occurred over the course of only about 30 years of real time.
Years later, Casales hired the mutant assassins Sabretooth and Pasco to kill about two dozens scientists who were associated with the experiment, including himself. Before Casales was killed by Sabretooth, he told the assassin about the Children of the Vault. This led to Sabretooth and Pasco travelling to the isolated cargo ship housing the experiment and discovering them, which led them to chase him and eventually try to destroy the X-Men in order to eradicate all knowledge of their existence.
