During World War II, Catharina was allied with Logan (previous to his becoming "Wolverine") in tracking down the evil Nazi scientist Dr. Maier. But the scientist took Catharina's sisters hostage and forced her to betray Logan. Catharina helped the scientist capture Logan, but objected when Maier tried to kill the captive. Dr. Maier killed Catharina, and Logan vowed to track Maier down.
