Professor Marko was a scientist who really took love for his daughter to a bizarre extreme. His daughter Stella was crippled, so Professor Marko conspired with the villainous Gorodok to deplete the Earth's oxygen so that most of the world's women would die, leaving Stella the most beautiful woman on Earth. Fortunately Professor Marko proved he wasn't completely insane by realizing that this was the wrong thing to do. Unfortunately, the plan was already well under way and Gorodok, who was working as a Communist agent, didn't want to cancel their plans. Professor Marko attempted to help the original Human Torch and his sidekick Toro against Gorodok. The heroes were able to thwart Gorodok from executing Professor Marko's plan, but not before Marko was shot to death by Gorodok.
