Trickshot was Hawkeye's former mentor. Years later Hawkeye met up with Trickshot again. His former mentor was now a villainous assassin.
Interestingly enough, Trickshot was the featured villain in both stories in Solo Avengers #1 (Dec. 1987), the issue in which the character made his debut. The Solo Avengers series featured two stories each month, one starring Hawkeye and another starring some other member of the Avengers. Typically the two stories were unrelated, but in this inaugural issue, the stories overlapped somewhat. Trickshot was the villain in both stories, one of which focused on Hawkeye and one of which focused on Hawkeye's wife and fellow Avenger, Mockingbird.
