Reverend Styge was a regular Christian clergyman (apparently Protestant). He willingly gave up his soul to the soulless villain known as Centurious. In return, Centurious (in conjunction with the demon-god Chthon) gave Reverend Styge a number of powers, including the power the power to raise the dead by eating sinners.
