Zartros' wife was a Quarlian, one of the dominant intelligent species in the mystic Quarl dimension. Her marriage to the gnome Zartros caused him to be imprisoned by the Quarlians, who looked down on gnomes. Zartros escaped and became an ally of Ka-Zar while the Earth hero was in the Quarl dimension.
