Senator Zimmer's brother Abraham had been a Stark Industries senior researcher. Abraham Zimmer had been a fairly significant supporting character before he died. The Senator blamed Tony Stark (publicly known by then to be Iron Man) for his brother Abraham's death. During confirmation hearings to confirm Stark as the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Senator Zimmer opposed the bid.
