The word "Zoms" is, of course, short for "Zombies." These Zoms, however, have nothing to do with traditional Vodoun, the religious/cultural source for traditional "zombies." The Badoon are an antagonistic alien race who used technological means to lobotomize humans and turn them into zombie-like slaves.
