An unnamed assassin tried to murder famous film actress Dolores Winters on a studio set in Hollywood. Fortunately for the sake of Ms. Winters, Clark Kent was on the scene, touring the set in his role as a newspaper reporter. Clark Kent spotted the assassin thanks to his telescopic vision. Kent foiled the assassination attempt. The grateful actress agreed to Clark Kent's request for an interview.
The unnamed assassin was seen in panels 3, 4 and 5 on page 2 of the Superman story in Action Comics #20 (Jan. 1940).
Although not explicitly stated in this story, the assassin presumably worked for the Ultra-Humanite. By the end of the story, it is revealed that soon after this scene, the Ultra-Humanite's assistants successfully kidnapped Ms. Winters, removed her brain, and used her body to house Ultra-Humanite's brain because his original body was dying.
