A burly, unnamed guard was seen repeatedly in this story. He worked for Laurey Mines and tried to maintain security for the mines and privacy for the new owner, wealthy young heiress Doris Laurey. The guard wore dark blue pants, a red jacket and a light blue fedora.

Initially, the guard allowed Lois Lane and Clark Kent to enter the fenced grounds around the mine because the reporters misrepresented themselves, telling him they were students from the state univesity, taking a course in mining engineering. When the guard realized they were reporters, after they tried to interview the owner, the guard threw Lois Lane and Clark Kent out. He threw them out again after they snuck in. When the guard caught Superman on the grounds of the mine, he was unable to throw the Man of Steel out. Superman tossed the guard onto the top of a barbed wire fence. The guard wasn't hurt, but he was suspended by his jacket from the top of the fence long enough for Superman to rescue Doris Laurey from those who were plotting against her.

This guard may have been brusque, but he was no villain. He was simply doing his job. He had no idea the mine's manager Crawford and the owner's uncle were plotting against her.

In all, this distinctive-looking but unnamed guard was seen in 12 different panels on 4 different pages.
