The pineys were feral creatures who lived in the woods outside the town of Raven's Perch, New Jersey. These creatures were investigated by the super-powered teenagers just before the teens came together to form the short-lived super-hero team known as "B-Sides."
The connection (if any) between the "pineys" and the "Nazi Sleeper" also investigated by the B-Sides teens in the same story is as yet unclear to us.
