Gyrk was one of the small gang of Zyndarian thieves who accompanied Raek when he tried to force his old associate Lila Cheney to help him steal the Jewels of Ikerno.

Raek and his gang came into conflict with Cannonball and the other New Mutants, mutant super-heroes from Earth who had accompanied the rock star/former interstellar thief Lila Cheney to a party. The New Mutants defeated Raek, Gryk and the other thieves. Cannonball's teammate Magik teleported the aliens to Limbo. They were never heard from again, which actually seems somewhat harsh when you think about it.
