Ann lived with her uncle, Dr. Hugo Vreekill. Her uncle invented technology that could melt steel. He decided to use the technology to destroy bridges and demand blackmail money from bridge-building companies. Ann wanted no part of this. She escaped from her uncle and told Batman and Robin all about her uncle and his criminal plans.

Ann's last name was never actually revealed in this story. If Hugo Vreekill was Ann's paternal uncle, then her name is probably "Ann Vreekill." But if Dr. Vreekill is the brother of Ann's mother, then Ann's last name would not actually be "Vreekill."
