An unnamed teen criminal was the last man standing when Batman confronted a gang of criminals robbing Fletcher Silver Co. When Batman finally got to this young man, he begged pitifully, "D-- don't hit me! Please don't hit me!"
Batman was surprised to see how young this criminal was. He said, "Wha th' . . .! A kid . . . A kid no more than seventeen at most!"
Batman told the youth that he still had to go to jail. The young man begged Batman not to send him to jail, claiming it would kill his mother, who doesn't know about his criminal activities. Batman was not quite convinced, but then the young thief promised to tell Batman about "something big." The young man then provided Batman with significant details about the criminal gang he had been working with, working under the racketeer Carstairs. Although Batman did not know it yet, Carstairs was working with Professor Hugo Strange, an opponent he had faced before.Batman enlisted the young criminal's help in getting more information about this criminal enterprise and the young man sincerely tried to do as Batman instructed him.
