Kirk Applewood was killed by Silver Wolf's sleeper assassin Sam Kurokawa, who had been programmed to do so without his knowledge or consent.
Kirk Applewood was originally not seen "on-panel," but he was mentioned in Sable & Fortune #1 (Mar. 2006) as somebody who was targeted by the North African fanatical terrorist group known as "Sword of Glory." (Presumably this was a Muslim jihadist terrorist group.)
Later, Applewood's murder was seen in a flashback in Sable & Fortune #4. Applewood was killed by Sam Kurokawa, a sleeper assassin who had been recruited (or perhaps "programmed") by the villainous Silver Wolf.
