Note: overly-enthusiastic young music fan of The Clap
David Ackerman was overly-enthusiastic and annoying when he met the rock musicians of the Clap. He asked the band to sign something for him - anything! One of the band members signed his eye! It isn't entirely clear if David actually had his eye poked out with the pen, or if he managed to close his eye enough that the rock musician was actually just "signing" over his closed eyelid. Either way, it looked painful and injurious. David Ackerman was clearly the victim of a rather vicious, callous attitude by the band he so idolized.
Adam Beechen, the writer of this story, pointed out in an interview-like detailed look at this story that the character "David Ackerman" was based on a real-life friend of his who had the same name and the same gushing, enthusiastic about countless bands and singers.
