One interesting aspect of this character is that when he first meets the Doom Patrol, they are appearing together on the TV show "Open Mind." The Doom Patrol side with professional skeptic Dr. John Radick in chiding Rama Kara for his beliefs in the "spirit of Osra." The Eastern mystic is upset by their derision and states that they will all answer to Osra some day for their disbelief.
Later, John Radick himself is revealed as the villain of the story, the man responsible for creating illusions of Osra attacking people and property. Suspicion initially falls on Rama Kara, but the Doom Patrol believe in his innocence and ultimately defend him.
The Doom Patrol members never come to believe in Osra, the deity that Rama Kara expresses heartfelt belief in. But they do come to realize that Rama Kara was sincere and benign. Radick, the skeptic they initially sided with, may have been sincere in his disbelief, but his actions and crimes cast him as the villain of the piece. The Doom Patrol ultimately learn that Radick is the son of Dr. Janus, the notorious Nazi war criminal they apprehended and jailed on one of their first adventures together.
