Jarvis was the butler (alternatiely identified as "gatekeeper") for wealthy heiress Dolores Drake. Disguising himself as Superman, he courted his employer and got her to agree to marry him, "Superman." As part of their engagement, he agreed to retire as Superman and no longer use his super-powers. This was all an elaborate scheme concocted to that his co-conspirators, the Flynn Gang, could rob Dolores Drake's well-appointed mansion home.
Jarvis was a DC Comics character. He was the butler for Dolores Drake. This Jarvis should not be confused with another, more famous Jarvis, the Marvel Comics character who is the long-standing butler for the Avengers.
Jarvis appeared in Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #5. This was only the fifth issue of this comic book series, but Jarvis was the second person to impersonate Superman in this series. In Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #2, con man Dan Jones secured a job as an elevator operator in the Daily Planet building and impersonated Superman, convincing Lois that he (Jones) was Superman's secret identity, in an attempt to get Lois to help him steal something from the building.
