Carmen was the girlfriend of Danielo Perez when he was 14. Carmen was Danielo's first girlfriend.
In an awkward moment, Danielo's mother Gloria walked in on Carmen and Danielo when they were engaged in pre-marital intimate relations.
Carmen drew Danielo into a dangerous world of ultra-strident Latino extremism and violent ethnic nationalism. It was up to Gloria's friend and co-worker, Henry James, to rescue Danielo from that world.
