An unnamed group of mercenaries took hostages at Walter Langford's Annual Fundraiser for the Preservation of Victorian Architecture. The mercenaries ("Ord's Hired Armed Men") were working for the Breakworld alien named Ord. It was originally assumed that Ord was a mutant. The newly-formed "Astonishing" squad of X-Men responded to the crisis.
