Paint was associated with the mutant supremacist gang known as the Spikes, who lived in Valle Soleada. While the other members of the gang continued to act in villainous ways and violently oppose any regular humans who lived in Valle Soleada, Paint saw the errors of these ways. Paint left the overtly racist, mutant supremacist Spikes and sided with the people who wanted to create a more tolerant, peaceful community, including the X-Men.
