Gumbs worked in the Salem Center Police Department. A female officer found the body of a homeless man named Hamish and showed Gumbs the body.
Reports on this story differ about whether it was Gumbs (a male officer) or the unnamed female officer who was the sheriff.
In the next issue it seems clear that this female officer is the sheriff or at least a police detective, as she is identified as "Detective Graves."
