Note: bystander victim of vampire suicide bomber in Union Square

Uncle Morty was sitting in an outdoor cafe in the Union Square section of San Francisco when a vampire "suicide bomber" exposed himself to direct sunlight, causing himself to explode. This action was intended to spread the vampirism in his blood like a virus. The main intended target was the former X-Man Jubilee (de-powered at the time). But the vampire organizers of this attack also intended for other bystanders to become vampires as well.

When the "suicide bomber" struck, Uncle Morty was talking to his niece, Lisa. She became infected as well and was one of the first major recruits in the vampires' new effort to convert humans into a vampire army.

Uncle Morty is an overweight, older man who is mostly bald, except for graying hair at his temples. His distinctive appearance was recognizable in a scene after the original bombing when infected new vampires gathered on a hill in Pacific Heights
