Alan Desmond was a gifted counter-spy working for S.H.I.E.L.D. His father, scientist Sir Phillip Desmond, had been killed by Hydra, so Alan had ample reason to want to work against them.
Alan Desmond killed and disguised himself as two key Hydra agents: Agent 13 and also the man known only as the High-Zero, the second-in-command under Baron Strucker.
Using the access he thus gained, Alan Desmond was able to foil Baron Strucker's Project: Blue Face plot. Unfortunately, Strucker finally discovered Desmond's subterfuge and killed him.
It was Alan Desmond's own father, Phillip Desmond, who had created the "Blue-Face" toxin which Hydra stole and intended to use in Project: Blue Face.
