Ms. Marvel, while working "undercover," discovered that A.I.M. had a secret headquarters located beneath a seemingly innocuous front organization: Alden's Department Store.
When Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel) first told SHIELD about the A.I.M. base beneath Alden's Department Store, they tried to find confirm her report, but they couldn't find anything. This was due to A.I.M. using advanced shielding technology. SHIELD was irate at Ms. Marvel for her report, which they believed was a mistake. Frustrated, Ms. Marvel headed back to Alden's to figure out why SHIELD couldn't find anything. Ms. Marvel ended up battling M.O.D.O.K. and A.I.M. agents there, in a story that was Deathbird's first appearance.
