After a wave of terrorist bombings, Iron Man's ally, the robotic Jocasta, was able to trace "brain wave emails" that triggered the explosion. Jocasta traced the emails to the Advanced Corporation.
Iron Man infiltrated the company, which turned out to be a front for the worldwide terrorist organization A.I.M. When Iron Man walked into the boardroom he saw A.I.M. leader MODOK sitting at the head of the meeting.
The world at large did not know that Advanced Corporation was an A.I.M. front. But the executives of Advanced Corporation certainly knew about this company's nefarious true affiliation.
