David Pennant was an English criminal who worked as an agent for the international terrorist organization A.I.M. He fashioned a super-villain identity for himself and called himself the "Highwayman." As the Highwayman, Pennant rode a mechanical horse and was armed with a laser pistol and an expandable net.
Working for A.I.M., the Highwayman tried to steal Cognium Steel from Oracle Inc. Unfortunately for Pennant, this company belongs to Danny Rand, better known as the super-hero Iron Fist. As Iron Fist, Rand fought and defeated the Highwayman.
There is little to indicate that the Highwayman shared in A.I.M.'s ideologies (including its penchant for Scientism). Pennant appears to have essentially been little more than a flashy criminal-for-hire.
