"The Beast" is about an evil man who is subjected to experiments which regress him into an ape. He kills the scientist who experiments on him. Legal authorities then capture this man ("the Beast") and put him in a zoo.
The story illustrates that doing evil causes a person to lose their soul, turning them (in this case literally) into an animal.
