An escaped criminal happened upon a "voodoo tribe" that worshiped a gold idol they called the "Voodoo King." The criminal stole the idol, thinking he would be able to sell it for a fortune. Unfortunately for him, he found out that the object had a curse on it, a curse that now afflicted him! The criminal physically could not put the idol down!

Is the Voodoo King actually a character? This may be debatable. It clearly was an object of great magical power. It was worshiped by a voodoo tribe. But it never spoke or displayed any intelligence. Perhaps the Voodoo King idol was created in the likeness of an actual person (a real-life Voodoo King). Perhaps it had a form of life of its own. The curse was true. Is the idol truly a vessel for a deity?
