Silas X. Cragg is obsessed with his desire for vengeance against Captain America, who was instrumental in Cragg being arrested many years ago. In the story that introduces Cragg, it is clear that this obsession completely defines his worldview and objectives.
On page 1 in Captain America (vol. 1) #121, Silas X. Cragg sees Captain America everywhere. He sees people on the street and even statues as Captain America. Narration states: "Professor Silas X. Cragg had a mad, fanatical obsession... Everywhere he looked he seemed to see the dramatic form of... Captain America!"
On page 1, Silas X. Cragg thinks to himself: "The red-white-and-blue Avengers has haunted me, night and day! I'll never be free of him until I have totally destroyed Captain America! And, destroy him I shall... . for at last I have found a method!"
On page 2, Cragg says to himself: "To him I am nothing... just one of the nameless men he had brought to justice... those long years ago! But, though he has forgotten me... I must have my revenge on him!"
