Barry owned and worked at a liquor store in Harlem, New York City. Three thugs (Frank, Blondie, and a third, unnamed thief) tried to rob the store. The Harlem-based super-hero stopped the criminals and returned the stolen money.

Barry was ecstatically happy about this, exclaiming to the gathered crowd: "My money! He saved my money!"

In panel 3 on page 12 in Captain America (vol. 1) #166, a newspaper delivery truck from the Daily Bugle drives by. A man tosses a bundle of newspapers out of the truck, shouting, "Late edition, Barry!"

Presumably, Barry is the name of the man who the newspapers were being delivered to: the store owner.
