Mia Salem was dating Electro (Max Dillon) at the time that he was hired to bring about a mass breakout at the Raft, the maximum-security facility housing super-villains.
After succeeding in causing the breakout and busting Karly Lykos (Sauron) out, Electro collected the last half of his substantial payment and went to Boston. He knew that authorities would probably be on to him soon. He asked Mia to leave the country with him immediately, so they could be together hiding out on a nice tropical island somewhere. Mia was shocked by this request, but before they could discuss it at all, the New Avengers showed up and apprehended Electro.
