Sammy made fun of Captain America, unaware of the fact that Cap could hear him.
This happened when Steve Rogers (a.k.a. Captain America) was walking in New York City, thinking about his place in the world. Steve sees a store with the sign "Books/POSTERIUM." A crowd of people is gathered around the storefront window. Steve notices that the store has "a new poster display--a whole campy bit with old time movie idols!"
Steve notices two posters in particular, showing W.C. Fields and Clark Gable. He wonders at "how old-time nostalgia has caught on so big!"
Then Steve sees a poster of himself in the display, which is something he "didn't expect to see." Sammy (a bespectacled young adult) is looking at the display, alongside a young woman who is apparently his date or girlfriend or wife.
Looking at the Captain America poster, unaware that Cap (in his civilian clothing) is standing right behind her, the young woman with Sammy says: "Wow! Willya look at that one, Sammy?"
Sammy says: "Man! How corny can ya be?"
The young woman says: "Do you think he's as square as he looks?"
Sammy says: "Even squarer, if you ask me!"
The young woman says: "He should'a gone out with the dinosaurs!"
Sammy says: "I wonder how it feels to be a has-been?"
Steve Rogers thinks to himself: "It's better than being a never-was, Sammy!"
Sammy, continuing his discussion with his female companion, says: "Maybe we oughtta buy one -- just for laughs!"
The young woman says: "Just between you and me, he's not all that funny, man!"
Steve walks away, thinking to himself: "She can say that again!" Steve says to himself: "That does it! If I hang around this town much longer, I'm liable to go bananas!"
