Joey was an average young man living in a small American town who took a date to see the feature film "Captain America Vs. Hulk" and happened to see the movie at the same time as Steve Rogers, who was traveling across the country via motorcycle.
Joey and his date discussed the movie a bit, and their discussion was overheard by Steve Rogers. Joey never realized he was in the same theater as Captain America himself, as Steve was dressed in civilian attire.
Joey's discussion with his date can be seen on pages 3 and 4 of Captain America (vol. 1) #130. Watching the end of the movie (after Cap has defeated the Hulk), Joey's date exclaims: "I never realized that Captain America was so -- so heroic!"
The evidently more skeptical Joey says: "Big deal! Who couldn't come across like that -- when it's just a movie?"
Steve Rogers, from the row behind Joey, states: "Personally, I think that Cap's the greatest!"
Joey replies: "Huh! A lot you know about it mister!"
Steve Rogers says: "You can say that again!"
Steve Rogers thinks to himself: "Wow! Times sure have changed! It wasn't too long ago when all the kids either wanted to be Joe DiMaggio or Captain America! But I'm dating myself again! I'll bet half the youngsters in this theatre never even heard of Joltin' Joe! And in another few years -- after the camp movie bit has worn thin -- how many of them will still remember Cap?"
After the movie has ended, the patrons get up and begin to leave the theater. Joey's date asks him: "What ever happened to Captain America, Joey?"
Joey answers: "Who cares about that clown? He's just not relevant in today's world?"
Joey's comments prompt Steve Rogers to contemplate his place in the world, beginning with these thoughts: "Not relevant, huh? Nowadays, the kids think they've got a monopoly on everything relevant! Well, maybe they have! Maybe my generation fumbled the ball once too often!"
