Dr. Charles Laing taught Candace Nelson (Daredevil's girlfriend and Foggy Nelson's step-sister).
When Matt Murdock was investigating Candace's disappearance, he talked to journalism professor Dr. Charles Laing. Laing was able to recall that Candace had stumbled across papers by former ESU professor Ted Sallis, and went to Florida to talk to Dr. Sallis. This led Daredevil eventually to run into Sallis in his transformed form: Man-Thing.
