Lynch was a high-ranking lieutenant in the Kingpin's criminal empire.

When the Kingpin's wife Vanessa Fisk was kidnapped, Lynch sabotaged the ransom exchange in order to force the Kingpin to resume his career as New York's top crime lord. Lynch's actions resulted in Vanessa being killed (or so it seemed at the time).

When the Kingpin learned of Lynch's sabotage, he killed his underling.
