Bruno Ponchatrane was a wealthy murderer who hired attorneys Foggy Nelson and Matt Murdock to defend him in court. Nelson and Murdock were able to successfully defend Ponchatrane and get him acquitted of the crime by exploiting legal technicalities.
Bruno Ponchatrane hosted a slavish party on his yacht in order to celebrate his acquittal. Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson attended the party.
At the party, Ponchatrane was attacked by armed men who arrived in a helicopter. These men were Tarkington Brown's "murder squad," a group of police officers who Brown organized into a deadly vigilante squad. They tried to kill Ponchatrane, but Matt Murdock changed into Daredevil and thwarted the assassination attempt.
Tarkington Brown was completely committed to his goal of killing criminals who the law couldn't touch, people like Ponchatrane. He wasn't going to let one setback stop him. Brown still planned to kill Ponchatrane, but first he sent his Murder Squad to get rid of Daredevil, so that Daredevil wouldn't get in his way again.
