The appearance of Butch's father is based on Ronald Reagan. Butch's father was originally depicted (in a shadow cameo in Longshot #4) as a parody of Ronald Reagan.

In Daredevil (vol. 1) #238, Butch and his father have a somewhat involved discussion in which Butch's father explains to his son how a cat's instincts cause it to continue to hunt mice, even though it lives comfortably in a city and is regularly fed. The discussion between Butch and his father parallels events in the same issue in which Sabretooth hunts people and is confronted by Daredevil.
