Maria Russoff was the grandmother of Jack Russell (otherwise known as Werewolf By Night).
Maria Russoff, a powerful Gypsy witch, married Baron Gregor Russoff. They had a son, named Gregory Russoff (or Gregori Russoff), who eventually became the father of Jack Russell.
Maria Russoff was born in Transylvania, where she lived throughout most of her life. She lived for a substantial in Wundagore, which is technically in Transia, close to Transylvania.
As the wife of Baron Russoff, Maria had access to Russoff Manor, a summer home that had been in the Russoff family for many generations. Maria used Russoff Manor as a base of operations when she sent zombie Gypsies to attack the villagers who had killed many of her fellow Gypsies years earlier.
Maria was not actually born into a Gypsy clan, but she was rescued by Gypsies when her on Gregory accidentally reactivated the curse of lycanthropy and began attacking villagers as a werewolf. The villagers blamed Maria for spawning a demon, and they stoned her, driving her out of the village. Maria lived among the Gypsies for 15 years. She adopted their ways and became a Gypsy herself, although she is of aristocratic blood.
