Phil Blackwood was a wealthy yacht owner who operated in the South-Sea of China during the 1940. Blackwood sunk his own cousin's yacht, intending to get salvage rights to the yacht to he could obtain the valuable cache of pearls he knew was on board. He later tried to retrieve valuable pearls from the yacht.
Professional diver Dave Dean and his colleague Fred "Shorty" Baxter were on the job trying to retrieve the pearls from the yacht when they were attacked by a diver disguised as a demon. Dean's airline was cut and he was forced to surface. Dean's rival, salvager Wing Po, was in the area, and Dean thought that the demon was really one of Wing Po's men.
Later one of Wing Po's own men was murdered while trying to retrieve the pearls.
Finally Dean discovered that the "Deep Sea Demon" was really Phil Blackwood, who was trying to retrieve the valuable pearls for himself. Dean turned Blackwood over to authorities so that the killer could stand trail for his crimes.
