During the first murder that Jessica Fletcher investigated, she at one point suspected Ashley Vickers of committing the murder. Eventually she found that Ashley Vickers and her accomplice (composer Peter Brill) stole secret documents from Caleb McCallum's office, but they did not commit the murder (of private detective Dexter Baxendale, mistakenly killed by somebody who thought he was Ashley's boss Caleb McCallum).
