Ferguson was a Navy officer who served with the Skipper during World War II. Once, as a castaway on Gilligan's Island, the Skipper was walking and talking in his sleep, and he thought he was speaking to Ferguson, asking him to hand him a screwdriver so he could do work on a radio to turn it into a transmitter.
