In one of the opening scenes in the first episode of the "Hostages," TV series, Dr. Ellen Sanders is talking to a co-working while walking to her office. Dr. Sanders sees a bald man in a janitor uniform emerging from her office. He carries a large utility case. He says nothing as she walks by him.
Once she is in her office and sitting at her desk, Dr. Sanders is puzzled when she sees an empty picture frame on her desk. Previously, there was a photo of her family in that desk. Where is the photo, she wonders, but she is too busy with other matters to give it further thought.
Later that day, Dr. Sanders and her entire family are taken hostage by a crew led by Duncan Carlisle. Carlisle (who is answering to people above him, although Dr. Sanders does not yet know that) tells Dr. Sanders that she must kill the U.S. President during an operation she is scheduled to perform on him.
Dr. Sanders later sees this same bald man posing who she had seen dressed as a janitor, now dressed as a security guard. Soon after Dr. Sanders and her family are taken hostage, she trips a silent alarm. She receives a call from the security company which monitors her home security system. The dispatcher explains that an alarm was tripped. The dispatcher asks for the password, which Dr. Sanders provides. The dispatcher then tells Dr. Sanders that a security guard will check in on them. Dr. Sanders tries to get her to call of the visit, but can't, because sending somebody is standard protocol. When the security company's patrol car arrives, the guard who comes to the door is the same man who Dr. Sanders saw dressed as a janitor in her hospital. The logo on the security guard uniform this bald man is wearing reads "Statehouse Security." This is the name of the company which called Dr. Sanders' home just minutes earlier. It is quite possible that this man has legitimately obtained employment with both Dr. Sanders' hospital and her home security company, in order to better monitor the family. The janitor/guard/operative gives Dr. Sanders the family photo he took from her desk earlier that day.
This makes it clear to Dr. Sanders that this man is an operative working for the Presidential assassination plot led by Duncan Carlisle. It becomes clear that the bald man took Ellen's family photo and gave it back to her, as proof that Carlisle's team can get to Dr. Sanders anywhere. Also, it becomes clear that the bald man planted spy cameras in Dr. Sanders' office so that Carlisle's team can keep an eye on her. This man was also probably the man who planted spy devices on Dr. Sanders' office computer so that Carlisle's team can track everything she does online.
