In Uncanny X-Men #153 (Jan. 1982), Kitty Pryde tells young Illyana Rasputin a fairy tale. Kitty wears an "Elfquest" T-shirt throughout the issue. Elfquest was an independent comic created by Wendy and Richard Pini. On page 16, a small sprite named "Pini" makes an appearance, alongside the elf-like character "Bamf" (who looks like a miniature Nightcrawler). The name of Pini, the small sprite (or elf), is a reference to Wendy and Richard Pini.
The tiny winged sprite observes the X-Men amalgams from afar and says "Bigthings!"
From the shadows nearby, Pini's friend Bamf says: "Hush, Pini! They'll hear you!"
