Mr. Pippin was a paranormal. He starting running wild at Bethesda Naval Hospital (outside Washington D.C.), where Psi-Force members Kathy Ling and Stasi Inyushin were being treated. In order to stop Pippin's rampage, Kathy blasted him with her powers.
Kathy (a.k.a. Shockwave) viewed Pippin as a dangerous threat. But Dr. Lucian Ballad (who was treating Kathy and Stasi) had compassion on Pippin. He asked Stasi to heal Pippin's injuries with her healing powers. Kathy objected to this, but Ballad and Stasi went ahead and healed Pippin.
